This Field Learning activity will allow students to discover different perspectives of one of Italy’s most sought-out sites: the Cinque Terre. The area lies along the Ligurian coast and consists of 18 kilometers of rocky coastline abounding with bays, beaches, and deep sea, surrounded by mountains running parallel to the coast. The “Five Villages,” Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso all face the sea. The environment represents the centuries-old effort of generations that has transformed an inaccessible territory into a landscape of extraordinary beauty. It is a Natural Reserve and national park in Italy, declared a World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1997.
